Lydia Jones

I am a Bristol based artist, whose work is conceptually driven, but also concerned with presenting a strong aesthetic. An area of interest relevant to my current practice is a contemporary and critical interpretation of the Baroque and Renaissance styles with particular significance to images of religious iconography. I work predominantly with sculpture, photography and installation.

My proposed work for this project centres on a parallel between the implications of historical studies of anatomy and works of religious significance, with particular reference to wax sculpture.

I intend to investigate a visual overlap between representations of Christ and the divine in religious iconography and of man through works of scientific study, in an attempt to expose and/or highlight a visual and cognitive osmosis of representation and meaning.
