Dan Brown

Dan Brown works online and offline, his multifaceted practice incorporates sculpture, moving image and technology. Current work focuses on the documentation and representation of art on the Internet, following systems of dissemination and the formulation of value, based on placement and context.

Collaboration and participation are key elements to Brown’s practice, maintained through digital communication and social engagement. His video works exploit the possibilities of mass connectivity, utilising the surplus content of an Internet culture, the version, the remix and the reproduction.

During the eight-week residency, I will investigate the representation and manifestation of art on the Internet and it’s relationship to art within institutional sites like galleries and museums. I aim to discover how people commonly engage with artwork, and their level of interaction between virtual and physical art forms. The project will also focus on the integration of new technology within society, and how these technologies are perceived, resulting in an artwork that develops online, offline, digitally and materially throughout the residency.
