From the buzz of the morning traffic to the fading evenings and dim lit streets, the energy of the city creates a treasure trove of light, shapes and pattern. Annabel draws inspiration from these elements, and from her passion for her urban environment. Her dynamic and intelligent woven works respond to the high intensity of the city. Working with reflective yarns to create the cloth and introducing printing and engraving onto Perspex, Annabel creates lighting boxes that house warm LED lights to illuminate your space. Introducing CAD technologies to the fiercely traditional technique of hand weaving, Annabel accentuates the order of threads. Through a series of photographs manipulated by shaking the camera or overexposing an image, she creates a base of subject matter that she can translate onto the loom. These manipulated images and the manipulated weave structures that emerge give the work its diversity.

Light inspired by light.

I propose a series of hung pieces that discover graphical representations of woven patterns, translated onto Perspex panels.
The works will discover the limits of Perspex as a material. How technologies such as hand engraving, printing and laser etching when applied to various thicknesses and colours of the material, alter transparency and depth. Lengths of cloth, hand woven on the loom will determine the design of what will be engraved and printed. These woven pieces using non-traditional fibres such as monofilament, piping and plastics will inform and compliment the Perspex works.
